DIY Organic Facial Steam

What better type of weather than a cold, gloomy day than to indulge in a little self care? This floral steam has been one of my favorites for years, and I finally got around to sharing my how-to! All it takes is some dried goodies and some hot water!

What you'll need:

  • Dried lavender buds
  • Dried Chamomile flowers
  • Dried rosebuds or petals
  • Dried fennel
  • Dried rosemary
  • Dried calendula

How to:

It's as simple as combining all of your ingredients in an air-tight container. I tend to prefer less rose product in mine because I find the smell overwhelming, but it's all a matter of personal preference how much of each dried ingredient you use. I like to make a big batch and save it for later uses so I don't have to compile the ingredients every time.

How to use:

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil
  2. Add a handful of the herbs to the water and steep while covered for 10 minutes
  3. Pull your hair back and wash face with a gentle cleanser
  4. Remove the herb mixture from the stove and create a steam tent by placing a light towel over your head.
  5. Rest head about 3-4 inches away from the steam and breath deeply.
  6. Enjoy for about 5 minutes in order to fully experience the detoxifying effects
  7. Since your pores will open after the steam, follow up with an optional facial mask!
